The Genesee Ecosystem Management Committee (GEM) is offering a full scholarship for one Genesee Foundation resident sixth-grade student to attend the Jefferson County Outdoor Lab High Potential Week that is held in June. This opportunity is for students who are interested in natural sciences or art, have received a nomination by their teacher, and are enrolled in Jefferson County public schools.
If your six-grade student is interested, be sure to have them contact their teachers as the school has a deadline for nominations. After they receive a nomination, email the following information to Karen Dierking at firstname.lastname@example.org to apply for the GEM scholarship.
- Parent's name, address, email and phone number
- Child's name and school
- Short essay written by the student on why he/she would like to attend the high potential week and the value he/she anticipates receiving through this experience
All scholarship applications should be submitted via email by April 10, 2016. The scholarship recipient as well as other applicants will be notified of the committee's decision no later than May 1.
The parent will be reimbursed for the cost of the program after the student completes the high potential week and submits a report to the GEM committee of their experiences. The student's report will then be published as part of a GEM article in The Genescene.
