Save the Date: August 6th National Night Out
The Genesee Fire & Safety Committee is again hosting National Night Out: August 6th from 6–8 pm. This is an annual event that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie. National Night Out was introduced in August of 1984 through an already established network of law enforcement agencies, neighborhood watch groups, civic groups, state and regional crime prevention associations and volunteers across the nation. The first annual National Night Out involved 2.5 million neighbors across 400 communities in 23 states. National Night Out now involves more than 38 million people and 16,124 communities from all fifty states, U.S. Territories, Canadian cities and military bases worldwide. Over 70 cities in Colorado participated in the annual event last year!
NATIONAL NIGHT OUT IS DESIGNED TO:
Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness.
Generate support for, and participation in, local anti-crime programs.
Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships.
Representatives from the Sheriff's Office will be here to answer questions about law enforcement and share effective strategies for fighting crime in our neighborhood. Jeffco Deputy involvement depends on availability. Specific crime prevention units are often available to attend our event. Last year the Cheezo Unit was here; the K-9 unit was here in 2017. Stay tuned for these details as the date draws nearer!
Specifics about the location, food, entertainment, and crime prevention unit for this year’s National Night Out will be communicated in the weekly Community News eblasts as the date draws nearer. This is a great night to get to know your neighbors and our local law enforcement officers; so plan to bring the entire family and help make Genesee an even safer and more welcoming place to live!
