Genesee Fire and Safety Site

Important information about protecting yourself and your family from wildfire, and many other safety issues, is easier to access and much more comprehensive thanks to a recent redesign of the Genesee Fire & Safety Committee (GFSC) website. Learn about emergency preparedness, fire restrictions, evacuations, home and property protection, personal safety, traffic safety, community events and to view resource documents.

With a single click, you can sign up for CodeRED alerts. This is the system Jefferson County uses for issuing evacuation orders and other emergency information. Your landline is automatically included, but if you want to receive alerts to cell phone numbers, you must enter that information on CodeRED.

Check out what is allowed, and what’s not, when Jefferson County issues Phase 1 fire restrictions or Phase 2 fire bans. Get informed about the three evacuation levels. The new website is also the go-to place for reading about steps to reduce wildfire risk and tips about homeowners’ insurance. Learn do-ahead actions, such as clearly marking your house number, which could make a big difference during an emergency.

Because the GFSC strives to listen to all safety concerns voiced by residents, the website includes topics about community patrol, personal safety, bicycling, speed limits, roadway parking, dogs and wildlife. Residents are encouraged to communicate with the committee using a link on the About webpage.

Want to delve further into safety issues? Go to the Resource Documents page to view pertinent items such as the Wildfire Insurance and Forest Health Task Force Final Report and the Jefferson County Emergency Preparedness Guide.

Also, find details about Genesee community safety events such as July 4, and National Night Out – a fun, family event in early August featuring a Jefferson County Sheriff’s unit.

GFSC is grateful to community manager Suzy Barr and Molly Kuhn, specializing in media/web communications, for their work on redesigning its website.
