Residents have access to comprehensive community services. All utilities are buried, fencing is highly restricted, and open space and views are respected and protected. Genesee is in unincorporated Jefferson County and is served by the Jefferson County school district and library district. In the case of an evacuation, Jefferson County Sheriff's Department will monitor and direct traffic leaving Genesee.

Residents have two possible exit routes for evacuating Genesee:
- Genesee Ridge Road to exit 256, then onto I-70. (This is the Lookout Mountain exit, sometimes referred to as the lower exit.)
- Genesee Trail Road, past the Genesee Town Center to exit 254, then onto I-70. (This is the Genesee Park exit, sometimes referred to as the upper exit.)
