Yoga is so much more than just stretching and a reason to wear fun colored tights. Yoga is both an art and a science that has a profound, all encompassing, influence on all parts of the being. Like myself, many people come to yoga looking for a workout or a different kind of challenge but end up having a life changing experience.
The practice of yoga builds self-awareness and leaves you with a heightened sensitivity for what is going on within you and around you.
Physically, yoga is the best medicine for a stagnant, achy body. It brings awareness and therefore energetic flow to parts of your body that you had forgotten about. It wakes up muscles that you didn’t even know you had and challenges you in new and different way each time you step onto your mat.
Mentally, practicing yoga can help you to slow your racing thoughts. The key to dropping out of the mind and into the heart is breath.
Lastly, practicing yoga regularly provides an opportunity to step out of your ordinary life and into your extraordinary life. When you are on your mat, nothing else matters, not your to-do list, not what you are going to make for dinner, nothing! It’s purely ‘me-time’. This is by far the most important hour of the day, time spend reconnecting with yourself on the deepest level.
The beauty of yoga is that anything that happens during the time on the mat, can be translated into real life, off the mat. If you can breathe you can do yoga! So, if you haven’t already, please give yoga a chance!
